VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!!!!!!
We've just returned from the most brilliant time ever in LA and Las Vegas with Tori and Micky.
We met Tori and Micky in LA and had a great time at the best hotel ever "Hotel California" (it was the real one right on the beach at Santa Monica Pier). We had a great time there hanging out and trying to find a cold beer on the walk between the Pier and Venice Beach which is not as easy as it sounds!
We then drove in the Big American Dodge from LA to Vegas. We had a couple of request stops on the way - for Adrian it was wanting to stop for a beer in the middle of the desert which we duly did. You can see that nothing has changed when Micky and Adrian are together and here you can see them pretending to be scared of a jelly snake....don't know what they would have done if they'd seen a real one!
My request was to find a real 1950's diner and turning off onto the historic Route 66 we found the best diner in the world - Peggy Sue's Diner, complete with booths, 50s music and waitresses who I'm sure had all been working there in the 50s. Our waitress "Cindy" served us up our burgers and shakes. If we'd only been able to fit in some "pie" afterwards but the meals there are way too big for deserts!
We arrived in Las Vegas mid afternoon and we were all way too over excited. We settled into our Hotel - New York, New York on the strip and then headed to (of course it's obligatory) the Irish Bar in the hotel and then onto the craziness of a Vegas night!
We spent the first few days around the strip which is completely indescribable, everything is enormous and getting anyway takes a lot of walking (mainly through casinos). The highlights were the Bellagio Fountain, the Stratosphere Tower where you can look out over Vegas and the crazy amount of bars, restaurants and shops.
Then we discovered "Downtown" Vegas - this is the old part of Vegas with the Golden Nugget and all the old Casinos and not only that but everything is cheaper by about 90%. We had a brilliant day and night downtown including our crazy Vegas wedding with Elvis, I will post some photos of that once I have them but it was absolutely the funniest day ever, we were all completely in stitches and were aching with laughing so much when we came out. Cheers Jeff aka Elvis from the Gracelands Chapel.
After that crazy day and night we had to get up early and head for the helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon - it was brilliant! We were picked up by shuttle and onto Bolder Airport where we met our pilot Jim who took us on a 45min flight over the Hoover Dam and through into the Canyon which was spectacular. When landed for a champagne lunch before heading back to the airport. It was a beautiful place and for me never having been in a helicopter before it was a pretty special first trip!
On our last night Micky and Tori headed off to Barry Manilow which they loved while Adrian and I wandered around to see all the free shows around the hotels before all meeting for our last few beers.
We had a wonderful 40th trip thank you Micky and Tori for an absolutely brilliant time, it was so wonderful to spend the time with you both, bring on the 2011 when we'll see you again. X
Lastly - it's good to know that some things don't change and one is when Micky and Adrian get together, here they are being broadcast live on the enormous Fremont Street Video Ceiling in downtown Vegas....never give those two a microphone!
PS - Micky I will never forgive you for making me go on that bloody roller coaster!
